The Mysterious " Warble"
Tim Crawford has an on-going discussion about the warble effect that has baffled many flutemakers and players.
He begins with this simple description of a very complicated phenomenon.
[The Warble is a “natural vibrato” effect occurring in some flutes when the fundamental (all holes covered) is played. Some folks find this to be a pleasing attribute and others do not.]
Read more... And, browse the hundreds of pages of information related to Native American culture.

To hear the warble effect being played go to "each" page of the site of Dr. Oliver W. Jones, Jr.
Don't miss the Flute Gallery of rare and interesting flutes while there.

Jonny Lipford Signature Flute
I just learned that the last of the Second Edition Jonny Lipford signature flutes in the Key of Am are ready for shipment. I was fortunate to have examined one of these fine works of art from the workshop of Randy and Shelly Stenzel, while visiting with Jonny at the festival. His performance of the new tune "Forgiven Memories" from his latest CD "Turn The Page" using one of these flutes was something to remember. So, if you're interested, you may want to check it out before they're all gone.

Native Rhythms Flute Festival - Melbourne, FL
The Native Rhythms Flute Festival in Melbourne, FL was a great experience. The performers were superb. The entire event was without a hitch as far as I could tell. A genuinely good family experience. The vendors were top-notch and helpful in every way. I don't know what else you could ask for. Maybe they'll let us pay for it next year. Yes, it was free, lots of parking, and a beautiful park with a campground.. Even the ducks enjoyed the show. Jan Seiden paused for a second in a tune and the nearby ducks, who had not made a peep during her playing, suddenly broke out in protest until she began again. It was fitting. The audience was mesmerized by her. The children loved Ed Winddancer's dance and story performance that he did just for them. Talk about a guy that's in good physical shape! He has to be. All of the performers were mingling with folks. It was an all-around good time for all.
